International Women's Day is coming up just around the corner and every year it reignites a conversation around women's roles in society. If you've been listening for a while, you’ll know how passionate I am about seeing more women in leadership positions within male dominated industries and recognised fairly for their contributions across society.

There is a tremendous opportunity for us to break through glass ceilings and be present at the table in the decision making process but to do that we need to show up as leaders.

But what do I mean by that?

Our own preconceived notions of leadership and leaders are often very wrong. We often visualise old white men wearing suits and sitting in positions of authority dictating the trajectory of a company but that’s not the case anymore.

In this episode, I’m sharing four common myths about leadership so we can rethink how you may be a leader in your career and in your personal lifes.

The four most common myths we’ll explore are:

1. Leadership requires an outgoing personality.

2. Leadership is the same as management.

3. You need to have a team to be a good leader.

4. Leadership requires personal sacrifice.

So I encourage you to step up as a leader today wherever you are in your career journey. The most effective leaders are the people who choose to take on that role, know who they are, and are clear on their values and the impact they want to have. You can decide the mark you’re going to make in the world and how you want to change things using your own very unique leadership style.
